Uxbridge held at home by West London in feisty encounter.

Uxbridge played their second home league game of the year against a West London side who themselves were looking to get back to winning ways after some recent indifferent results.

The visitors won the toss and opted to play with the strong wind in the first half. The opening encounters ebbed and flowed with the West London side bearing down on the Uxbridge line but unable to make the breakthrough. This eventually came half way through the first half after a good set play.

Despite the wind Uxbridge whirred into action with returning stalwart Adam Lackey, Craig Monaghan, Tom Redrup and Mark Wils making nuisances of themselves in the tight and open play putting the West London line under pressure. After several strong phases from the forwards, the ball found its way out to full-back Luke Matthews to cross the whitewash out wide. Sadly the conversion was missed.

The Uxbridge forwards led by skipper Jake Lamport continued to make inroads into West London territory and with half time approaching Adam Lackey sniped his way over from a ruck to put the home side in the lead. Nick Guy added the extras to go in 12-7 at the break.

The second half saw Uxbridge look at use the wind advantage and despite finding themselves in the right areas, found the West London defence to be solid and holding firm. A poor spell followed and allowed West London to add two more tries of their own (one converted) to take the lead.
With ten minutes to go Uxbridge got back into the ascendancy repeatedly knocking at the visitors’ door, the pressure paid off with a converted try to take the score to 19-19.

Neither side could find the edge needed to snatch a win so the spoils were shared and Uxbridge can look back on a fine performance following a tough couple of weeks.

A special mention must go to injury-legend Adam Jenkins who managed to hurt himself in the warm-up and needed an ambulance to escort him to his regular haunt (Hillingdon Hospital). The club wishes him well in his recovery.

Uxbridge First XV are away next week to Hillingdon Abbotts (K.O- 3pm) and the Second XV are at home to Twickenham Occies (K.O-3pm)
