Bridge returned to the field after a one week absence to take on a Watford side pushing hard in the league and looking to avenge a 29-28 defeat in North London in November.

In good conditions for rugby, the game kicked off and was fast and furious from the start, both sets of forwards getting stuck in and plenty of ball working its way wide to be met with stubborn resistance in each side’s defences.

Bridge worked their way into the danger zone a good few times and after a few rolling mauls off the line out, Bridge opened their account with a try a piece from Bryan Cassidy and Adriano Martins. Watford responded with two a try of their own to give Bridge the lead at half time.

The second half started with what can only be described a as s**tshow from the home side for ten minutes as a combination of poor tackling and the visitors working the ball wide let them score three unanswered tries in quick succession to turn the swing of the game in their favour.

The third try seemed to whir Bridge into action, and with ball in hand and Adam Jenkins, Niall McLoughlin, Sam Dillamore making yards, Jenkins snipped from the back of a ruck three yards out and dotted the ball down out wide. Sadly the kick was missed.

Watford then took their turn to siege the Bridge line, and pinned the home side back with some potent lineouts and clever play to for penalties in dangerous areas, which gave them another try.

Bridge tried to haul themselves back into the game, and a further try from skipper Jake Lamport got Bridge’s fourth of the day, and in with the last play of the game Will Searle scored a (converted) fifth to take the final score to 36-31.

Bridge will rue what should have been a win, letting Watford back into the game in the second half, but have picked up two points as a saving grace.
Next week, Bridge are on the road to Haringey Rhino’s (kick-off- 3pm) to try and get back to winning ways.

There is also a Floodlight Cup game against Ruislip Second XV that will be going in the diary shortly. All players are asked to make themselves available for both games.
