The first league game of the season saw Uxbridge travel to Saracen’s Amateurs.

Right from the start Uxbridge were on the back foot as the home team scored an early try in the corner to take the lead - it wasn’t long after this until another try was scored, both converted impressively by the opposition Fly Half.

Lacking any aggression Uxbridge didn’t challenge Saracens much in the first half. A 15 minute spell in the attacking 22 started well but ended with no points. Before Half time Saracens scored 2 more trys and converted them both making the score 28-0 at halftime.

The 2nd half started much the same, Uxbridge struggled with their set pieces and lost much of their own ball to penalties and unforced errors. Although under pressure Uxbridge kept them out at the beginning of the first half until an unnecessary off the ball scuffle saw a player from both teams send off with straight red cards, and Saracens awarded a penalty. Kicked to the corner they scored from the line out.

A bit fired up from the earlier altercation Uxbridge chased the next Kick Off with a bit more fight. Winning the next scrum Uxbridge looked to be gaining a bit more control of the game. A wide play in the backs from some great rucking and mauling in the far corner gave Steve Albutt a sight of the line - he ran hard and scored in the corner to make it 35-5

Things were looking up for the traveling team until a dubious injury for the opposition meant the scrums went uncontested. This took all the momentum out of the game for Uxbridge.

The game finished 49-5 to Saracens and left Uxbridge with some reflection and improvements to make before next week.
