BUCKO’S BOYS BOUNCING

DOVER 2nd XV 15 VIGO 2nd XV 41
PREMIER 2 EAST
Ben Buckland’s team is slowly but surely coming to terms with life in a difficult division. The team , which still changes every week, is gelling into a decent unit, and this was an excellent result. Dover may be down the table but their first team are still a League above Vigo’s 1st XV and throw a long journey into the mix, and the win is even more creditable.
The victory was based on Vigo’s solid pack which set the foundation. They dominated the set piece almost from the off. Dover lost a prop early on , which didn’t help their cause, but Vigo took full advantage. Dover also struggled with Vigo’s offloading game, the visitors continuously popping the ball out of the tackle to outflank their opponents.
The result was six tries and a penalty try for the Villagers, including one for 17 year old Lewis Pitchell, his first for the club and one at the other end of the time scale for Dan Couchman, probably his 101st. In fact, Dover defended well and kept the score down from what could have been a basketball score as Vigo sparkled. They themselves scored three good tries, drawing in Vigo’s defenders with some good passing before releasing their runners. But Vigo’s forward power proved too much for their hosts, their speed of offload continuously outmanning the Dover defenders.
Tries for Ben Paget, George Rawlings, Lewis Evans, Luke Vint as well as Pitchell and Couchman’s efforts, two conversions by Harry Pattison, as well as the penalty try rounded off a very good day for the Vigo team in which Lewis Evans, Chris Judson and Connor Cutts shone.
