After taking a 12-5 lead into halftime, Beach fell to a 12-17 deficit, before catching second wind to secure a crucial victory against Blackwater.

Flanker Kyle Reed received an errant lineout throw and immediately kicked the ball to touch to end a game that could only be described as a nail biter.

The Virginia Beach Falcons faced a Blackwater club that played with an intensity that obscured the fact that they traveled with very few reserves.

Virginia Beach opened the game with constant pressure that resulted in a short opportunity for 8 man Kendric Roberts to drive in for a try at the 10 minute mark. Blackwater returned with a score after a poor clearance kick was recovered by their fullback and counter kicked over a pursuing defense that left the fullback able to score on his own kick.

The Falcons were able to score once again less than one minute before halftime with a strong run by flanker TJ Hinson. Fullback Patrick Seckinger was able to convert the try to make it 12-5 going into the break.

Blackwater came out with a higher intensity and continued to capitalize on penalties that placed Beach on their own try line. Several crashes later, Blackwater was able to tie the game 12-12 in the 54th minute. Seven minutes later, Blackwater took a 12-17 lead after a scoring drive with multiple quick tap penalties and crashes.

Virginia Beach felt time slipping away and showed urgency in the final 20 minutes of the game, playing with increased aggression at the breakdown and greatly improved backline play. As a result, the Falcons were able to tie the game with a breakout run by outside center Kendrick Wallace. Four minutes later, inside center Brandon Smith identified a gap in the opposition backline and took a 60+ meter run down the field for the go-ahead score.

After several minutes of defending a desperate and relentless Blackwater attack, the Falcons were able to end the game off the foot of Kyle Reed.

The Falcons have now regained a .500 record, having won both of their home games. Virginia Beach travels to Charlottesville next week (10/5) for their final road trip of the Fall season before enjoying two bye weeks to prepare for their final two games, both played at home.
