Well that’s it. We have now finished the 2023/24 Season and what at season it has been. We have had some fantastic results right across the whole Club. From the Juniors, the Ladies and the Senior teams the rugby has been immense. Well done indeed to all the players, coaches, helpers and supporters.
The First XV finished 2nd in their league. They had some big wins, some narrow wins and some extremely narrow losses but always played fast attractive rugby which certainly entertained their large number of supporters. The icing on the cake was in winning The Cornwall Cup by beating Truro in the final. The last game of the season was a quarter final of a National Cup at Trowbridge where we just lost. A disappointing end to a great campaign. Also disappointing is that we now say goodbye to our very own Three Musketeers. Mike Rawlings, Matt Bailey and Tom Rawlings are stepping down from coaching at Camels. All three have been fantastic servants of the Club - they have worked incredibly hard, brought in a huge amount of expertise and skill and achieved so much - unbeaten league campaigns, promotions, cup success etc. etc. We wish them all well and very much hope to see them back at the Club soon.
The Second XV have also had an amazing season. Finishing 2nd in their league and gaining promotion - a fantastic and very well deserved achievement for players and coaches. On top of this though, they have also won The Duchy Cup. They did this against the odds by beating Redruth 2nd's in the semi final and beating St. Austell 2nd’s in the final even though both these teams play in a higher league.
So isn’t it fantastic that the two senior cups in Cornish rugby now reside in Wadebridge. And, on top of this, our Colts won the Plate in the under 18’s competition.
Also all the age groups have played matches and trained throughout the season. Just last weekend the Under 16’s played Redruth in the County final and although lost put up a fantastic performance.
Of course the success of the Club does not just depend on the players and coaches. A huge amount of effort is put in by a large number of committed volunteers. From groundsmen and bar staff, car parkers and handymen, team organisers and tidy-uppers, bin emptiers and changing room sweepers, drivers and cleaners, committee members and caterers etc. etc.
So very well done to everyone connected to our wonderful club. Now we can have a couple of months off to recharge batteries before we start looking forward to 2024/25.
Finally can I invite everyone to our Club AGM on 22nd May at 7pm in the Clubhouse. Come along and learn a little more about the workings of the Club and the people involved in organising it.
