Wadebridge Camels Chairman Martin Bricknell sums up the season....

Adrian Langdon13 May - 12:17

News from the chair!

Well, that’s the 24/25 season now put to bed. Our final game was our 2nd’s cup semi final loss against Camborne 2nd’s at the end of April. It was a really close match and in the end we lost by just 4 points.

It was a really good season for the Club right across the board. All the results of First's, Second’s and Colts can be found on the website but in summary the First’s came 4th in their league - a fine achievement under a new coaching set up - and they were due to play in the final of the Cornwall Cup. This however was postponed from the last week of April and will now (due to circumstances beyond our control) be played as a pre season game on 23rd August. To say that the players, coaches and the Club as a whole are disappointed at this outcome would be a massive understatement.
The Second’s had a great season, finishing 6th in their league having just gained promotion.
However, the standout team has to be our Colts who won the Cornwall Colts Cup after many years of near misses. Their Final against a combined Penryn/Perranporth side was a fantastic game with the lead changing hands on several occasions before Camels scored a try in the last play of the game to win by 1 point.

The Woman’s section, the Girls teams and the Juniors all had great seasons and their reports will be posted up over the next few days.

Last weekend saw our Awards Presentations events. On Saturday we had, for the first time ever, all the senior awards given out on the same evening - Colt's, Woman’s, 2nd’s and 1st’s. Nearly 200 came along to the large marquee erected at the end of the main pitch. Drinks from 6pm, great food courtesy of Big Pan at 7pm and presentation of the awards from 8 o’clock. Then dancing from 9-30.
All the awards winners will be posted up in the coming days.
It was a fantastic evening and special thanks must go to Darren Livett and Gav West plus all their helpers especially Maddie, Izzy and Mabel who worked so hard throughout the evening. Thanks also to Royal Cornwall Showground for the loan of the tables and chairs, to Davey Electrical Contractors for the lighting and power, to North Cornwall Linen and to Jamie Yoki of The Waterfront for his sponsorship.

Then on Sunday morning we had the minis and juniors awards presentation. The marquee was bursting at the seams as the coaches from all the age groups gave their accounts of the season and presented the awards. It was a fabulous morning and everyone connected to the juniors must be congratulated for the time, commitment and enthusiasm they put in to provide such a fantastic environment for rugby for the youngsters of Wadebridge and the surrounding area.

The final event of the season is the Club’s AGM which will be held on Wednesday 21st May at 7pm at the Clubhouse. All members are welcome to attend.

Although the players and coaches can look forward to a few weeks clear of rugby there will still be work to do on the pitches, around the Clubhouse and at our St. Kew venue. We generally have a work session each Wednesday morning so if anyone is available please contact me or just turn up at the Clubhouse between 9-30 and 12.

Have a great summer and we hope to see you all at the start of the new season.

Martin Bricknell - Chairman
