Tribute Western Counties West
Kingsbridge 26 Wadebridge Camels 15
By Nigel Walrond
WADEBRIDGE Camels are still not clear of relegation trouble after their defeat at Western Counties West leaders Kingsbridge.
With all four teams behind them in the table having matches in hand - in Penryn’s case as many as three – they will be casting some anxious glances over their shoulder in the next few weeks.
The Easter weekend could sort out a few issues though, when the Camels have a blank in their fixture list, with Penryn having two matches in three days, at home to sixth-spot Tiverton and away to Kingsbridge
The damage to the Cornishmen was done in the first half, and they trailed the hosts 19-3 at the break.
James Grubb kicked Camels into an early lead with a penalty, but Kingsbridge were in front only four minutes later and never gave up that position during the rest of the contest.
George Banfield continued his prolific scoring streak with a try for the sixth successive game, converted by Ben Newman.
That was followed by another touchdown from hooker Jake Vincent, with Joe Banfield bagging a third, and another Newman conversion completed the first-half scoring.
Joe Banfield collected his second try of the game in the second half by running in from his own 22, but Camels claimed two of their own, with full back Will Pengelly grabbing the first and back rower Adam Blackmore the second, with Danny Thomas converting one with the last kick of the contest.
Kingsbridge: Tries: G Banfield, J Banfield (2), Vincent; Cons: Newman (3).
Wadebridge: Tries: Pengelly, Blackmore; Con: D Thomas; Pen: James Grubb.
