The Wakefield Phoenix U12 1 continued their season with a match against Birkenshaw Bells.
The Phoenix team ran away with the first quarter with excellent shooting from both Alicia and Nancy. By tightening up in defence and better movement in the second quarter Birkenshaw started to advance. However, the Phoenix girls responded well, replicating a tightened defence and intercepting the ball well when Birkenshaw attempted to move into the shooting D.
The third quarter was the best of the match with excellent attacking play. There was free movement of the ball and good use of the court which combined with ‘on target’ shooting allowed the girls to strive even further forward.
The girls held on in quarter 4 and it was at this point that Birkenshaw started to settle into their game, scoring 3 goals. By this point however the gap was too wide and the Phoenix girls went on to win the match 18-4.
To further improve, the girls now need to think about their fitness. It is always in Q4 that the girls tend to tire and allow the opposition to pull back.
The final score was 18-4 to Phoenix.
