The Wakefield Phoenix U12 team continued their season on Sunday 11th November with a match against Leeds Athletic 1. The girls tried their hardest but were over-powered by the speed, agility and accuracy of the Athletic Team.

It was obvious from the outset that Athletic had played together for a long time and were the epitome of a ‘team’. This is a learning point for our girls, who showed moments of brilliance, but struggled to move the ball up the court effectively often failing to spot players who were free.

Phoenix players need to look out for each other and develop set moves and strategies to allow them to drive forward when they are on the attack. In addition, they also need to think about how to pass the ball effectively when they are up against a tall team. High passes were quickly intercepted and play often passed back to Athletic.

The final score was 47-2, however this score does not reflect the effort the girls put in.
We are looking forward to the next match against Yorkshire Terriers where the girls can put some of this learning into practise.
