U12 1 v Leeds Athletic 2 lost 24 - 6 & U14 1 Phoenix V Huddersfield Giants lost 4 - 31

U12 1 v Leeds Athletic 2 lost 24 - 6
Squad Nancy Tidy, Tara Glennan, Katy Sanderson, Grace Hughes, Emma Dye, Alicia Cusworth, Maisie Bromley, Amber Beaumont & Olivia Bowes.

The first quarter was dominated by an attacking Leeds Athletic, their accuracy of passing and speed allowing them to accelerate to a 5-1 lead.
This continued in quarter two, Athletic driving further forward to 14-1. However, Katie held her own in GD, intercepting a number of passes and disrupting their flow of play.
The third quarter proved to be the most exciting of the match, the Phoenix girls holding the Athletic team to 4-4. The girls moved freely up and down the court, with fantastic passing awareness across the team.
Unfortunately Athletic ran away with quarter four. There was however, an excellent goal by Grace from the edge of the D.
Again, deeper, more accurate passing would help the girls progress as well as learning to use the team outside of the circle to support the shooting team. This would allow them to move closer to the post to attempt to score. Additionally, the girls need to think about playing their own game at their speed rather than trying to play in the style of the opposition. This will develop as the team get used to playing together.
Players' Player Katy Sanderson.

U14 1 Phoenix V Huddersfield Giants lost 4 - 31
Squad Charlotte Bennett, Hollie Bott, Bethany Critchett, Halle-Rose Dawson, Ashleigh Jones (team Captain), Freya Lambert, Amelia Trei & Alice Waters

From the outset Huddersfield Giants were on the offensive; the ball spending the majority of the first quarter in their half of the court. Phoenix defended well, and performed some brilliant interceptions but their efforts were not enough to break the relentless attack. The score was a demoralising 0-10 by the end of the first quarter.
The attack continued in quarter 2, with Huddersfield consistently taking control of play with fast, accurate passing. In spite of this a minor triumph came with a highly fought for goal by Phoenix, followed quickly by another – small shards of light penetrating the darkness. The second quarter ended with a score of 2-18.
In the third quarter the aggressive play from Huddersfield continued, widening the goal difference. High quality defending from Phoenix prevented several attempts on goal however, and another hard earned goal was scored by Phoenix ending the quarter with a score of 3-27.
In spite of the team visibly tiring from the constant onslaught from Huddersfield, Phoenix did not lose spirit. They fought hard to keep the ball in Phoenix’s end of the court gaining another triumphant goal, and defended energetically to the final whistle; stopping several more attempts on goal.
Although a harsh defeat, with a final score of 4-31, Phoenix demonstrated again the resilience and determination that was becoming evident last week.
Well deserved (& exhausted) Players’ player of the match: Bethany Critchett
