Depleted Walcot 2’s edged out at Oldfield
Walcot 2’s played away Oldfield 2’s on Saturday. It was always going to be a tough day with half the squad at Twickenham watching “The Clash”. However, with many debutants from the youth division Walcot put up a good scrap. Due to some clever kicking and a good set piece Oldfield were 3 tries up at half time. With the wind behind them and going downhill the away team made the 2nd half a much more even contest. Walcot’s defence was solid with debutants Harrison Nicholls and Sebastian Reid really putting their hands up and making it hard for Oldfield to make ground. Archie and Harry Ingall were also proving a nuisance to the home team with some marauding runs and great footwork on show. It was the the older players, however, who made the breakthrough when an Oldfield break led to a loose offload that landed in the hands of Chris Martin who broke the line and almost made it through but was stopped by the Fullback. Stuart Foxon was on hand for Martin’s offload and span it wide for Archie Ingalls to race through for his first senior try. Joseph Healy converted. Walcot managed one more try and the final score was 29-12. Nando’s Bath Vaults Man of the Match went to Joseph Healy for a fine display in both defence and attack. The young players all played well and the future looks bright at Walcot Rugby! Walcot would like to thank Brick Worker for providing post game beers.
