As we look to be moving out of the worst of Covid-19, we wanted to provide an update on rugby at Walcot.
The club is in good shape physically, with plenty of activity happening to keep the facilities maintained/improved and the grass cut.
From a financial perspective, prudent management over the past few years means we have good reserves to keep us going, and our Treasurer is busy applying for various loans and grants to bolster that.
That leads then to a question about what is happening about a return to playing & watching rugby.
As things stand only the professional game has any plans to re-start with a provisional date of 15 August to resume the season. This would be to finish off the current premiership season.
As far as the community game is concerned (where Walcot fits in), there is no definitive information. We are hearing that the RFU (those not on furlough) are looking at various scenarios. This is in terms of starting date (September or later) and format (could well be touch rugby for a while). As soon as we know, we will let you know.
In the meantime we are working on a few activities to ready ourselves for the new season:
- We are investigating a new club wide kit supply partner - where we hope to provide a consistent look for the club across senior and youth, and provide more options in terms of clothing and how they can be purchased
- We are looking to build our fundraising and sponsorship capability. We have a number of committee members with knowledge and experience and are looking for someone to take the lead in this area. If you can help with this, please get in touch with myself on - 07748117999
- We will be talking with the various age grade coaches to see what they want to do to finish off last season in terms of end of season celebrations and awards - guided by what we can do in terms of meeting in groups
- We will be talking to the coaches about getting ready to restart rugby activities whenever that is and in whatever format
In the meantime, if you have any queries, please do get in touch
