Weston Hornets get stung for 72 points by Walcot.
Hornets 3’s were struggling for numbers when they turned up to Albert Field on Saturday. This was compounded when they lost their prop to injury during the warm up. The home team lent them a hooker and a winger and the game commenced albeit with uncontested scrums. It didn’t take long for Walcot 2’s to score after Hornets knocked on from the kick off giving Walcot the scrum in a dangerous position. Walcot shipped it out to the backs who almost broke through but it was Prop, Tom Read who ran a good line off the back of a ruck to power over from 10 yards. More tries followed through individual efforts from in form Centre Toby Brown and his partner in the centres, Curtis Arber who both stepped their way through the flailing Hornet’s defence. Walcot’s next try came thanks to dynamic Prop, Neil Fletcher who picked up a loose ball off the back of a line out he dummied and stepped 2 defenders before offloading to Hooker, Chris Martin who showed quick feet to make another few yards. Rapid winger, Dean Griffith was on hand to score in the corner after the breakdown. Next score went to Flanker, Alex Stephenson who smashed through the defence from the halfway line before racing wide and skinning the opposition 15 on the outside. Next up was Toby Brown for his 2nd, cutting through the Hornets like a hot knife through butter leaving bodies in his wake. The referee called the half after 35 minutes and the score was 43-0. The second half carried on where the first left off with every kick off that Hornet’s took being ran back at them. Lock, Will Thompson scored the first of the half showing great pace and power to break through the middle before fending the fullback and touching down in the corner. Fullback, Nick Dagger scored the next, a good finish after some good work down the right wing and a great steal from Adrian Machin. Walcot were rampant by now, veterans Stuart Foxon and Dave Norris were rolling back the years, playing champagne rugby, even the Badger was running the ball from his own half, skinning backs for fun. Further tries were scored by Lewis Palmer and Dan Hine before 2 more from Hat Trick Hero Dean Griffith. The ref then called time early on the one sided affair. Fly Half and captain Dan Hine kicked 6 conversions to make the score 72-0 after around 60 minutes. Nando’s Bath Vaults Man of the Match went to Will Thomson for a solid display and some dodgy facial grooming. Walcot would also like to thank Brick Worker for providing post game refreshments. Walcot now sit second in the table with 2 games left to play.
