Walcot U16 vs Winscombe

Winscombe under 16 extinguish Walcot under 16’s cup double dream
A Walcot side depleted by injuries and half term unavailability were dumped out of the quarter final of the Somerset Cup at Kings College, Taunton in boggy conditions last Sunday.
The format of the game was established very early on when Winscombe’s bulky forwards took the game to Walcot with powerful driving play, which Walcot countered with fierce tackling.
However despite being under intense pressure up front, Walcot opened the scoring when No.8 Ollie Burrage took on a loose Winscombe lineout throw and worked the ball out to his backs, who shipped the ball out to centre Toby Brown - who duly raced through Winscombe’s flailing defence and touched down under the posts.
Winscombe responded with a well taken try just before Toby Brown provided the opportunity for fellow centre Sam Firth to score a try in the corner, which increased Walcot’s lead immediately before half time.
Shortly after half time Winscombe’s powerful forwards took the game away from Walcot with a 22 point salvo.
Walcot flanker Ben Webb scored a very well worked consolation try after finishing off a multi-phase move.
Scrum half Hugo Flinn added a conversion for Walcot, who play Thornbury in the Bristol Junior Combination Cup next weekend.
