A combined 1s and 2s squad put in a lively performance at neighbours Didcot to outscore their hosts 6 tries to 3.

Wallingford travelled the short distance to neighbours Didcot's impressive new ground at Boundary Park for their first pre-season friendly of the season.
A strong starting XV weathered some pressure from their impressive hosts to end the half four tries to one to the good, with tries for Max Suttner, Sam Botting (2) and debutant Nathan Chapman.
A young backline made up of 6 home-grown players proved the difference, with returning legend Jackson Sayce and Sam Botting forming an ominously potent centre partnership, whilst teenagers Max Suttner and Tom Shaw had excellent games on the wing.
In the diminishing light, the second half saw a near-complete overhaul of the Wallingford side, but the new entrants more than held their own, edging the second half 14 points to 12.
In the pack, the twin towers of Ed Searle and Ed Foster had fine all-round showings, whilst Craig Irwin was impressive at loose-head, and in the backs, George Marffy and Harry Robins formed another strong centre partnership.

All in all this was a decent run out. Still plenty of work to be done, but it was good to see so many old and new faces slotting in so seemlessly, which bodes well for all three sides this season.

Didcot played plenty of good rugby, and were probably guilty of wasting a few golden opportunities with poor decision making, but they should prove a real handful in their league this season.

Next Thursday sees Wallingford host RAF Sharks at the Hithercroft, 7pm kick off, see you all down there.
