Wood win their first league game away at Stourport on a wet Tuesday night.

Wood took the hour journey down to Stourport to take on the Swifts in their second game of the MFL season for both clubs.

Walsall Wood started the better of the two teams with returning winger Jai Verma making a great run with the ball and a shot hitting the post with forward Boothe's follow-up hitting the side-netting. These chances later continued with a Ryan Boothe free-kick which was unfortunately cleared by the Swift defense. Stourport had a chance with a free-kick from Marin that hit the Wood wall formed with McGurk and Unitt. With the Stourport keeper being continually put under pressure by Boothe, McGurk and Verma were able to get chances away. The visitors then have multiple chances on goal with the final strike by Dan Gyasi going just over the crossbar, but Wood were still on top. Verma makes another great run, and ball into the box but sadly, Gyasi can't get there for it. Stourport forward Martin gets another shot but is defended well by the Walsall Wood defense. Adam McGurk gets Wood's final chance of the half with the ball going just wide, after Verma putting the ball across the goalline. The lads went in goalless and drawing at the break.

HT: SWI 0-0 WAL

The second half got underway with a lot of rain coming down from the heavens at Walshes Meadow in Stourport. Chilton has a run for the Swifts and puts the ball in the box, however, Cain Smith can't get there. Much of the forward line were making runs, in particular Boothe, however unfortunately he was offside and it would have been a great chance for the Wood. The rain continued to come down and gained heaviness with the managers, who were wearing polos in the first half, sticking their raincoats on. Gyasi and McGurk both came off for Kaden May and Hayden Purves, with Harry hoping to win Wood's first league game. Straight off the bat, May had a shot on goal but didn't go in. But finally, after many chances, Hayden Purves scored for Walsall Wood and put them in front, and got the club's first goal of the MFL season, and what a knee slide in the pouring rain which sent the traveling supporters and committee crazy with excitement. A few minutes later, Wood nearly scored another with substitute Kaden having another shot and this time stinging the gloves of Swift keeper Bishop. In the last ten minutes, it was all guns blazing from both sides but Walsall Wood had the more amount of chances in the game. Two Swift attempts were fired at goal, but Callum Smith managed to save both attempts. Winger Jai Verma came off for defender Phil McKerdy with five to go to help the club consolidate their potential first three points. Then, finally the referee blew his full-time whistle and Walsall Wood have got their first three points and win of the season. What a great game, and thanks to all the fans that came to support. Your support was amazing.

We go again on Sat 27th August at home against Tividale FC and we would love to see you there.
