Walsall Wood FC welcomed newcomers to the league Atherstone Town FC to the Titan Recruitment Stadium for what was e to be an entertaining game

Before kick-off, both dugouts, teams, and sets of fans took place in a minute's silence after the death of Queen Elizabeth II and then a rendition of “God Save the King” which we thank everyone for joining in.

When the ball finally got rolling, Walsall Wood began the better with Joe Fitzpatrick having Wood’s first chance within the first couple of minutes. Hughes was then called into action later clearing an Adders chance, then Wood had a chance from a corner which was denied. Both the hosts and the visitors then had spells where both teams were on top, and they couldn’t be split. Until, Atherstone number ten, Brady, broke the deadlock and put the Adders ahead at the Titan Recruitment Stadium. However, Wood drove themselves with grit and determination and went close with a great run by winger Jai Verma. The Walsall Wood faithful started to encourage the boys that little bit more and with just under ten minutes to go, Verma found the back of the net for the host’s first goal of the afternoon. Moments later, however, goalkeeper Callum Smith was called upon to make a great foot and hand double save. The referee then blew his whistle after forty-five minutes with the teams going back into the dressing rooms even stevens.
HT: WAL 1-1 ATH

Within one minute of returning back onto the pitch, Walsall Wood had finally taken the lead of the game with a goal by Jai Verma. Unfortunately, the Wood faithful weren’t singing for too long as Atherstone Town got one back to make it a draw once more. Lycett and Verma made some great attacks down the left handside, with some help from the midfield, Somel and Fitzpatrick, but none of which could put Wood ahead. The Wood then had a shot on target which forced the Adders keeper into a save, and Sam Unitt entered the field of play for Fitzpatrick to add more attacking flair. As Wood got closer and closer, another change was made, with striker Adam McGurk coming on for the new permanent signing Dan Gyasi. Attack continued on the left, with a ball to McGurk going close and Lewis Riley Stewart, from defense, going close to goal as well. But finally, Wood got their goal, in the 90th minute all thanks to substitute Adam McGurk, which sent the Wood fans crazy. Kevin Hemagou came off for McKerdy with a couple of moments left. In a last minute effort, the away team sent their keeper up at a corner to try and score, but the final whistle went and Walsall Wood were victorious and got another three points in the page.
