CHARLIE MANNERS GRABS A CONSOLATION

Walsall Wood fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to playoff-chasing Quorn on Tuesday night as Charlie Manners scored the only goal for The Wood in the second half.

Three first half goals for the visitors secured the foundations for a victory before Charlie Manners grabbed a consolation goal midway through the second half.

The first goal came as Quorn had their first chance of the game in the eighth minute. Tyree Wilson broke into the box and tucked the ball into the bottom left corner.

The visitors continued to dominate and doubled their lead as Paddy Webb slotted the ball home, before Cain Noble came close in the 25th minute, rolling the ball just wide of the post.

Ross Evans had the first shot of the game for The Wood as his shot on target was saved well by a diving save from Charlie Woods.

The resulting counter attack saw Webb score a third goal for Quorn as he finished down the middle of the goal, slotting the ball past Eve.

Wood began the second half brightly, and nearly grabbed a goal in the 57th minute as Woods almost spilled the ball over his own line, but managed to scramble back to grab the ball.

Quorn smashed the crossbar with a header just after the hour mark, before some skilled footwork from Charlie Manners saw him was able to get a shot off, but he fired just wide of the mark.

Manners grabbed a goal in the 76th minute as he smashed the ball into the net, but this was only a consolation goal for Wood despite many late attempts.

To add insult to injury, Wood were reduced to ten men late on as Josh Mansell saw red.
