1992-93

London Spartan League Premier Division

Club President was Dave Brittain, Steve Woodward was shown as the Chairman in the programme cover. However John Stacey was actually Chairman in this year steeping down in March 1993. Tony Hodges took over at the helm. Alf Johnson was Secretary, also stepping down in March 1993. John Stacey was Treasurer also and carried this role on. Joe Collins and Denis Tekell were joint 1st Team Manager's. Running the Reserves was Alan Burt with John Ward as his assistant. Dave Godfrey ran the "A" team. Dave Hodges ran the "B" team. John Stacey was also the programme editor. Pat Jones was Youth Section Secretary. General committee members were Kath Hyams, Pat Ridgwell and Pat & Alan Jones.

The Abbott's opened up the season with a 4-3 away win at Croydon Athletic but were back down to earth losing 1-2 at St Margaretsbury in their next match. In the FA Cup 1st Preliminary Round a 1-1 draw was attained at Halstead Town, Ray Simpson netting two minutes from time. In the replay also at Halstead goals from Colin Bevan and Mark Lilly saw the club progress 4-3 into the next round. This was the clubs first ever win in the FA Cup. Next up were Southern League Baldock Town. Although drawn at home the club were forced to travel yet again as the Capershotts pitch had been re-laid during the summer with the famous slope being taken out and the pitch levelled. In the Baldock line up that day (Sat 12th Sept 1992) were Kevin Phillips, who later went on to play for Watford, Sunderland and Southampton. Also included was Player Manager Ian Allinson, the former Arsenal player. Despite 2 Lee Johnson goals Town took the tie 3-2.

The FA Vase was a disaster as the club crashed out 2-5 at Wingate & Finchley in the Extra Preliminary round. Sonic Salidray and Colin Winter replied for the club. In the Essex Senior Trophy a comprehensive 6-0 win over East Ham United set up yet another tie at Halstead Town. This time the team made no mistake and ran out 4-1 winners at the first attempt. Ford United eventually put us out of the Trophy on a frosty night at Rush Green. 2-1 the score line.
