A series of personal thoughts from the side of the pitch.

By Aiden Mynott

Well, here we are, the last game of the season and what a big one. Win this and promotion is attained, something we would surely have achieved 2 years ago if Covid hadn’t intervened. Whatever the result today the Club can be proud of what has been achieved.

I remember the day when I had the man from the electric in one room and the man from the water in another room, wanting to cut us off. Careful negotiations took place, playing one against the other in the minimum they would accept for not cutting us off. The result was successful we stayed connected.

That period was the most difficult in the Club's history. However, we survived but it cost Mike VARNEY and me over £45,000 to keep it alive. But on days like today it was worth it. It is appropriate to mention the current Chairman at this point. He was able to raise the funding to provide a new artificial pitch. A move that has led in many ways to today. The Club has a stable financial footing and win or lose a bright future.

Also, a special mention for Club Secretary Bill SPINK is also required. The job of a Club Secretary is time consuming and thankless. Get it wrong and all sorts of sanctions can apply, get it right no one notices. Everything runs seamlessly, well done Bill.

There are many people involved in running the Club and all should get a special thank you at the end of today. It isn’t easy giving up your time to do what the League, FA, and just general maintenance of the site and premises requires. I know what time that takes.

Now to the manager Mr Paul HALSEY. As I’ve mentioned before I take some credit for making him the excellent manager he is today. He has learned his trade at Clubs higher and lower than Ware and learnt it well. He has learned to get people around him that support him and the result has been clear to see on the pitch over the last 4 years. The FD will be very proud of you Mr HALSEY as I am. Unfortunately, neither of us can be at the game today physically but we will be cheering you on in spirit.

Have a Guinness and a Jameson on me, whatever the result, you deserve it. Chapeau Mr HALSEY.

And on that bomb shell,

Stay Healthy
