Marcus Milner joins the centurion club.

Marcus Milner joins the centurion club.

Stephen King

One hundred appearances up in the game against Hashtag United.

Marcus slipped under my radar when he reached his hundredth appearance for the club but I hope to make amends with this article that tells you something about him.

Born in Jamaica he somehow couldn't resist the lure of Southend on Sea and joined the League club as a player making his debut off the bench in a League One game at Southampton. But things didn't work out for him at Roots Hall and most of his career has been spent in non-league.

His clubs include several from Essex as you might expect but also Crawley Down Gatwick and Wingate & Finchley whilst he is now in his third period at Wodson Park. It was Kem Kemal who brought him here in the first place, signing him early in 2014. He scored on his debut against Cheshunt and made 32 appearances in that and the next season before moving on.

With Kem returning as manager at the end of the 2016/7 season Marcus also made a return which spread over into the following season during which time he added another 52 appearances to his total. He left again but returned once more for the very much shortened 2020/1 season in which he made another 12 appearances bringing his total for the club to 96.

And so to this season and our fourth game of the campaign which brought him his century. It's time to start thinking about his second century but for the moment here's a synopsis covering some key elements of the first -

4th February 2014 in the 2-0 home win over Cheshunt. Isthmian League Division One (North).
