Margaret Nash

Stephen King14 Mar 2021 - 07:40

Our board room hostess died from cancer on Saturday evening.

The club is saddened to report that Margaret Nash has died. Having fought cancer for some time Margaret's condition worsened recently and she was taken into hospice care in the last few days. To us at the club her passing was sudden and a shock for us all but mostly, of course, her family to whom we extend our sympathies.

Those working behind the scenes at the club are not normally noticed by the general public but her passing inevitably leaves a gap that will be hard to fill.

Margaret was, amongst other things, responsible for looking after visiting officials in the boardroom before and after matches. Her supply of cakes and other goodies was always a high point and a definite consolation to those on the losing side.

Margaret's role at the club extended to acting as secretary to management committee meetings and inevitably to keeping the outcome of those meetings in good order.

Margaret was no mere cypher. A keen sportswoman herself, she always had an opinion on the game and players, some of whom were not spared from criticism. Talking over a game with her was entertaining, instructive and sometimes challenging. She will be sadly missed at the club.
