Fred Burbidge, David Sota and Louis Rose take the honours.

The Player of the Year award, voted on by the supporters, has been going for over 50 years but I cannot find an example of a player who has won it two years running. Well, not until this year when Fred Burbidge was again selected by the supporters.

And, as far as I can tell, only once before has the same player won it twice, Jon Bridge in 1989 and 1994. Other keepers to have won the award are Alan Lowen (1973), Nick Marwick (1987), Steve Ratcliff (1992) and Martyn Patching (1999).

So well done Fred, there were several times this season when I looked at my report of a game we had won easily and still thought "you know, man of the match was Fred, he kept us in it with his saves". As if to emphasise how he is thought of he also pocketed the Manager's and Chairman's player of the year awards.

There was hardly anything left for anyone else but David Sota was a worthy winner of the Players' Player of the Year. Congratulations to David who only made his debut with us this season. That was on August 5th in the pre-season Charity Cup game against Potters Bar and he was there for the last game at Bedford, making 36 appearances throughout the season, the second highest number by any outfield player after Jack Dreyer's 37. Playing at full back he nevertheless scored one goal, our second in the 4-2 home win over Hadley.

Last but by no means least was a special award to Louis Rose whose season appeared to be finished when he went into treatment for throat cancer. Yet he came back to captain the side in four of its last five games. By the end of the season he had made a total of 220 appearances for Ware and scored 27 goals. Well done Louis. If anyone deserves a break it must be him but still, his thoughts and ours will soon be turning to pre-season training.
