Ware demonstrated speed and strength to overcome a side whose earlier victories in the competition had been nothing less than overwhelming. In the end the only complaint to be levelled at the visitors was that they missed a hatful of chances especially in the first half when they were limited to a one nil lead.
That goal came after nine minutes when Reece Crowter looked to have lost the ball but recovered it to go again into the Spelthorne area where he was brought down. Tommy Shepherd stepped up to convert the penalty.
After that Ware maintained a high pressure game but were unable to convert a number of chances that came their way. At the other end there were a couple of moments when Ethan Gannon had to be alert but he was mostly untroubled.
Ware started the second half with Vinnie Gidden on for Noah Southwell and it took him only five minutes to double Ware’s score after good work on the Ware right opened up the opportunity for him.
For a while it looked as though that could be it especially after the Spelthorne crossbar was rapped by a shot to deny Ware. The good approach work continued but too often the final ball wasn’t quite right.
That changed on 65 minutes when a slick passing movement ended with Crowter supplying Shepherd who made no mistake to score his second goal. Having got the habit Ware did it again on 72 minutes when another good move resulted in Edward Connolly sliding the ball home for number four.
Connolly scored again with five minutes of normal time left though this time it was his cross from the left that eluded everyone in the penalty area to finish in the net.
Ware now have to travel to either Pagham or Leatherhead in the third qualifying round in the week commencing Monday, October 19th. Pagham and Leatherhead meet on Thursday.
