Ware through to County Cup Semi Finals where either Tring Tornadoes or Buntingford Cougars await.

A bitterly cold and wet morning greeted both teams for the quarter final of the county Cup.The pitch and facilities of Borehamwood were excellent, drainage installed in the summer ensuring a perfect surface.

A sickness bug sweeping through the squad saw two players (James & Sam) unable to make match day and a couple more recovering just in time, Tom Hayden & Archie Wolf manfully managing one half each. The depth of the squad paying dividends and ensuring Ware retained plenty of options to change the team.

As a performance it was competent as opposed to fluent. A solitary goal in the first half, Thomas Weald finishing neatly from an Ollie Luck pass, was below par for the dominance. Crusaders defended well and always look dangerous on the counter, requiring a Man of the Match performance from Lennox Agyemang to keep a lid on the chances.

The second half started brightly for Ware and the second goal came within 10 minutes of the restart, Andrew Bennett finishing at close range from a corner.

Crusaders then had their best spell pushing play up the pitch and Harry Satchell made to saves from a free kick and counter attack that kept the score at 2-0.

However Ware soon reasserted themselves on the game, Rodney Clements looking very dangerous on the wing forcing a corner converted by Lennox Agyemang for his first goal for the club.

With 5 minutes remaining Alex Edgecombe won the ball in the centre of the pitch,a quick pass to Joe Chard saw another through ball for Ollie Luck to chase down. It looked like he was third favourite behind the centre half and Crusaders keeper but as is his way, Ollie conjured a magic trick, stealing the ball and finishing in the blink of an eye, a goal well deserved given his tireless work.

Not the greatest performance but in reality a game that was always under control.

Congratulations to Lennox for his first goal and MOTM award, thank you to the Crusaders for their hospitality and general spirit. Now on to the semi finals.

Next week we entertain Cheshunt in the League.
