Emirates FA Cup, first qualifying round; kick off 3pm.
Admission: Adults £8, Concessions £5, £3 Under 16s.
When we first met Colney Heath in a pre-season game back in 2002 it probably never occurred to anyone that we might one day both be at Step 4 in the NLS. But the world changes and that day has arrived; and just to emphasise it the fates have drawn us together in the FA Cup as well. Three fixtures in one season gets close to doubling the number of times we have met, closer still if there’s a replay next Tuesday.
In addition to banking £2,250 from the prize fund a win will take the Magpies to the second qualifying round for only the second time in their history. After a slow start to their league campaign, a 3-0 victory over Harlow in the previous round shows they are more than capable of doing so.
Ware are not short of confidence either but I suspect this will be a tough encounter if we let the opposition make the running. However, Harlow found a way past them on Bank Holiday Monday with a 3-1 revenge win in the league. Maybe we were watching and took notes.
There is currently one ex-Blue in the Colney Heath squad, Brett O’Connor having made four appearances for us in the 2018/9 season.
