Well, that was disappointing. I’m talking about the postponement at Walthamstow on Wednesday. Having put Tuesday’s game back a day to avoid the frost, Wednesday produced some unexpected rain.
The top surface of the pitch was playable but it was still pretty solid just below and the rain wasn’t being absorbed. The referee felt obliged to call the game off very close to kick off time but I don’t think anyone feels he was wrong.
The general disappointment in missing out on a game was compounded for Ware by a lost chance to see new signing Joe Dearman in action. Not only that but Theo Orofi was back from Ghana and was due to sit on the bench and maybe get a spell in the game.
We can only apologise to those who made the journey to Walthamstow but it was just one of those unavoidable things. The good news is that you don’t have to travel far on Saturday to see Joe and Theo. We have organised a home friendly against Step 6 Benfleet of the Eastern Counties League division one (south).
With our scheduled league game with Harlow no longer happening following their resignation from the league, not to mention postponed fixtures against FC Romania and Walthamstow, there is an obvious need to get some playing time in before we travel to Kidlington the following Saturday.
Benfleet are also short of a competitive fixture this weekend so we will entertain them at Wodson Park in what we hope will be an entertaining and instructive contest.
