tuesday 1st August at Wodson Park SG12 0UQ;
Herts Charity Cup first round; kick off 7.45pm.
Based on the signings made by Paul Halsey and on what we've seen in the pre-season friendlies so far there will be a number of new faces in the line up for this game. So it's a chance for home supporters to get to know the side that is being built for another attempt at promotion.
There was a good work out on Saturday at Step 3 Berkhamsted but now we face another side from the same level and in a competitive match. It is in fact the first season since Covid that the county FA have launched their Charity Cup and Shield competitions.
However, it's not the first time the two clubs have met in Charity Cup though it is the first time that we meet at Wodson Park. The previous two games have seen us lose 5-3 on penalties in August 2009 after the game ended 2-2 (Steve Horsey scored our goals) and 1-0 in normal time three years later.
Like us, the Scholars have had mixed results in pre-season and will be looking to make a good start to their competitive games. Their manager is former Ware player Max Mitchell (42 appearances and 17 goals) but they have also signed Leigh Rose (204 and 53) and Sam Chaney (32 and 6) for the coming season. Might we see the Rose brothers in opposition on Tuesday night?
If you're intending to find out please remember that entry is by card payment this season.
