Tuesday, 14th November at Wodson Park SG12 0UQ;
Herts Senior Cup, first round; kick off 7.45pm.
This is our first meeting with Hemel Hempstead in the Senior Cup since 1990 when a 3-0 home win in front of 116 spectators took us into the second round. Shaun Brett, John Spring and Russell Sanderson scored our goals on a late October evening. Thirty-three years ago, I must say I’m surprised the gap is that big.
We went out in the next round by the same score at Vicarage Road in a game in which Steve Perryman fielded his first team against us. He called beforehand to ask if we minded him playing such a strong team but their Saturday game had been postponed and he wanted his players to get some minutes in. Cecil Hudson, our then secretary, pointed out that, according to the competition entry conditions, Watford were meant to play their first team so we couldn’t object.
All of which is by the by. This time it is we who’ll be hoping to get some time in for players newly arrived and maybe some fringe squad players. Mind you, given the currently small size of the squad there may not be many who qualify as fringe members.
Get along if you can and make the most of the very low entrance fee we’re charging. If you can’t then Pete and Symon will be at the game ready to broadcast online. So tune in to https://www.spreaker.com/show/90minuteslive.
