Saturday, 10th December at Wodson Park SG12 0UQ;
Pitching-in Southern League Division One (Central); kick off 2pm.
We’re at home again and with another early kick off but this time it’s 2pm. Well, we all want to see England vs France in the World Cup.
Our opponents are Biggleswade who lie one place and (following Harlow’s resignation) one point above us in the table. We do have three games in hand on them so there’s a lot riding on this game for both clubs.
We hadn’t met before last season when they were one of the few teams to get away without being beaten by us, winning 3-0 in Bedford where they ground share and drawing 2-2 at Wodson Park.
Talk of Bedford is the cue to say that Renée Howe has returned to the Eagles. A change of manager has prompted a change in playing personnel at the Southern Premier club and they have opted for the return of one of their favourites from last season.
Paul Halsey has been quick to sign a replacement in the shape of James Ewington who played for him at Hertford but has had plenty of experience at Step 3. At the same time and with injuries still affecting the defence, he has also signed Joshua Steele, a centre back from Harlow Town. Expect both to be in the squad for Saturday.
All of these developments have come too late for Paul to say anything in his programme notes on Saturday but there’s plenty to read none the less. The programme is still £1.50 at the gate.
Don’t forget that there is more football on Sunday. The under-14s meet Enfield Borough in a league match at 10am and that is followed at 12 with the under-16s hosting Colney Heath also in a league game. Entry is free and the clubroom and tea bar will be open.
