Biggleswade showed up clearly on our radar last season when we lost the away game 3-0. A strong wind kept the ball in their half for much of the first half but we couldn’t turn possession and territory into goals. By contrast the second half found us on the defensive and conceding three times against a fast and mobile side.
The return fixture was a 2-2 draw as once again their essentially young side played some good football, moving the ball around well. They looked to be developing into a very useful side and so it has proved this season. Another 2-2 home draw back in December saw them snatch two very late goals to round off another excellent performance.
They now sit second in the table and must be fancying their chances in the play-offs though we know to our cost that things can go wrong at that stage. Perhaps we can fire an early warning on Saturday.
Where Biggleswade go in the longer term is an interesting question. They are one of three senior clubs in a town that is smaller than Ware but short of the necessary amenities. So they play their games in Bedford which will guarantee them a ground capable of hosting Step 3 football should it come. But when and how will they get back to Biggleswade?
