November’s league win over Berkhamsted, until recently the only league game in which they had failed to score, seems to belong to a different world. It should have been a take off point for us yet somehow we have rarely risen to the same heights again.
There again we remain in the play-off places and whilst results this coming Saturday could go against us and drop us out of the top five places we still have the proven resilience to reclaim a final say in promotion.
With the divisional title so long within their grasp Berkhamsted faltered with just one point needed to confirm what the rest of us already accepted. Was it nerves that caused their defeat at Hertford and their first loss of home points against Kidlington? If it was we might have expected them to recover their form and dispose of Welwyn Garden City on Tuesday night but it ended all square again.
It's our turn to test them on Saturday in the knowledge that if Biggleswade Town win at FC Romania we will need a win at Broadwater to stay in the play-offs.
Meanwhile ……
………. Leigh Rose left the field injured at Walthamstow on Tuesday but should he play in this or Monday’s game against Hertford it will mark his 200th appearance for Ware. That doesn’t happen too often. Coincidentally the only other player within touching distance of that record is his brother Louis, currently on 198 games with Marcus Milner on 173.
