Match Preview

The first home game of 2024 finds us in need of points against a Leighton side that has failed to win any of its last three matches yet sits in a strong position in the league. They lie seventh compared to our ninth but with both on 29 points their superior goal difference keeps them ahead.

We’ll be hoping to do something about that goal difference when we welcome a new signing in defence. The club seems coy about announcing just who it is so you’ll have to wait until Saturday to find out (though there has been the odd hint on social media). Meanwhile eight goals conceded in our last two games have highlighted what has been something of a season long problem. Sort that out and we’ll be on our way again.

We last met Leighton in the 2015/6 season and took four points from the two games. Although we have already scored a comfortable win in Leighton earlier this season, on current form we have a hard task ahead of us. Leighton were Spartan South Midlands League winners last season and have carried the confidence gained then into their performances this campaign.

They had a good run in the FA Trophy that ended with a close defeat at South Park in the competition proper.

On Sunday there is one youth game for you with our under-14s meeting Harpenden Town in an Eastern Junior Alliance match. Our boys are three points behind Harpenden at the top of the table but with two games in hand. It should be a good game. Kick off is at 10am, the clubroom and tea bar will be open and entry to the ground is free.
