This fixture, our first in the league this season, is one of several that fell at the end of last season due to Covid-19. It is also the reverse of last season’s opening match. No imagination, these fixture computers.
Back on 17th August last year we conceded a 92nd minute equaliser but on balance a draw was thought a fair enough result. It was only later in the season that it looked like two points lost rather than one gained.
How well Staines will adapt to this season after they finished bottom last time out is open to question but surely they will do better. They’ve been signing players in the long close season and the search for our first win at Wheatsheaf Lane will be a difficult one.
Meanwhile our own Finlay Titchmarsh was with Staines towards the end of last season.
Whilst we were losing at Canvey Island in the FA Cup the Swans were beating Step 5 Guildford City and will now entertain Walton Casuals in the 1st qualifying round.
