These Christmas Holiday meetings between Ware and Hertford have rarity value. Traditionally played on Boxing Day there have actually only been six on the 26th December with the first of those being as recent as 1978. It brought a 1-0 win for Ware thanks to John Vintinner’s goal. There have been a further four which, like this one, were played on the following day and once there was a game on Christmas Day itself, a 5-5 draw at Hertford in 1948.

A draw on Monday might please Hertford more than Ware but even so I expect them to be looking for a win. It’s clear they are capable of it and that’s before you take into account the “derby” effect which can upset the form book; plus there’s Ware’s selection problems thanks to recent red and yellow cards. It should be a close game.

I don’t know if you will have run out of food by the time Monday comes around but take heart. In addition to the bar and tea bar there will also be a barbecue specialising in kebabs. What more could you ask for?
