Whilst we used to have regular meetings with Welwyn Garden City, the majority of which were in the old Spartan League, Tuesday's game will be our first competitive meeting in over 20 years and only the fourth in 60 years. As it is changes in the structure of non-league football for next season could see us meeting in league games for the first time since those Spartan League days in 1950.

We haven't lost to them since 1948 and will hope to keep that run going with a place in the senior cup quarter finals at stake but the Citizens current form will give them heart. They are currently third in the Spartan South Midlands League table and would probably be higher but for a good run in the FA Vase which has left them with games in hand on the top two.

The Vase run ended on Saturday with a home defeat to Biggleswade leaving the question of how they will respond to a disappointing and somewhat surprising exit at the third round stage.

This will be our fourth meeting in the Senior Cup. The first occurred in 1952 and ended in a 5-2 first round win which put us on the way to the semi-final and defeat to eventual winners Berkhamsted Town. We won the cup the following season, our fifth and most recent success in the competition though we have appeared in two finals this century.

On the other hand Welwyn Garden City have yet to reach a final though a season in which they have suffered just one league defeat so far presents a good chance of changing that record.
