Khan’s first five wicket haul not quite enough
With availability a challenge the 2s had nine players against Preston but still came really close to a victory. An opening partnership of 82 from Kev (56) and Simon (27) gave a good start and then double figure contributions from Khan, Joel, Raees, Fahad and Imran saw us to 168 for 7 off our 40 overs. Khan opened the bowling and had four of their top order out very cheaply before carrying on to get the other opener for 37. A really tight spell led to figures of 8-1-27-5, particularly impressive with only 9 fielders. However Preston batted deep and kept finding the inevitable gaps in the field. Good bowling all round kept us in the game but an unbeaten 50 from the Preston captain saw them over the line with just 2 overs to spare. Another strong performance all round, with mentions to Joel (who was hit in the face fielding and left the field with blood pouring from his nose but came back on to help us out) and to Jamie (for a particularly classy stumping, pity it wasn’t captured on camera…..).
