Four games in and the "A" team are looking strong reflecting the new strength through out the club

Saturday 9th October – this rather dismal Saturday brought us to South Park for our 4th game of the season. South Park have a very good club set up and we expected a tough game, we had 13 players and were looking in good shape as well. Although dismal it was an ideal day for football, a bit overcast and not too hot.

The team were in really good spirits and looking forward to the game. South Park were a young side and I thought our experience would stand us in good stead. We started strongly and were immediately dominant in the middle of the park, South Park however were very eager and were chasing down all loose balls. Our dominance paid off early when a free kick went into the South Park box and was driven home by Rich Wadsworth, 1 0 up after 6 minutes. That settled the team nicely and we continued to play with confidence, however South Park gave us a bit of a scare when a great through bell sent this little wippet straight through on goal but Keith came out to meet him and pulled off a great save. That gave us a reality check as we had pulled our foot off the steam a little and on 24 minutes Ash put through a magnificent ball which saw the South Park keeper come rushing out and completely miss the ball, the mighty Cruncher got hold of it and nestled it beautifully in the back of their net!!! South Park still didn’t lose heart and continued to fight hard competing for all 50 50 balls with high energy. Defensively we were brilliant and South Park’s chances were very limited, so we went in at half time 2 0 up and controlling the game.

For the second half we needed to remain focused as South Park were definitely not out of this game, we had a couple of quiet spells during the first half so we needed our experienced players to raise the chat. The first 10 – 15 minutes were quite tight with the only threat coming from a missed header from South Park where they should have done better. On 60 minutes Cocksy floated in a lovely free kick and Daryl dinked a cheeky little header straight past the forlorn South Park keeper, lovely goal big enough gap to start relaxing! Unfortuantely Daryl didn’t last much longer as he twisted his knee in a strong challenge so I brought on Foxy who was raring to go. We were well in control now and our attacks were coming thick and fast, within a few minutes of Foxy being on he latched on to a great ball from the right and buried it in the back of the net, there is obviously no justice as he was given offside and it didn’t count. A couple of minutes later Ash took on the South Park defence and floated a great effort over the top of the keeper which unfortunately just went over the bar. With 23 minutes to go I couldn’t take the whining from the line anymore and decided to give the mighty Crunch a rest and put Baker up front. We created all the chances and at one point I think Keith was asleep back in our half !! We had 3 minutes left to play and I thought the flying forward was going to let me down but I shouldn’t have let those doubts in. Dave latched on to another great through ball and lifted the ball beautifully over the head of the keeper. 4 0 and that’s how it finished, for some reason the ref played 2 minutes under for each half.

As a team I thought we were excellent. We need to continue to focus on our talking and playing the ball easily, with short sharp football we go through teams like butter!!

Man of the match. Great team performance but I’ll give it to Cocksy. Great work ethic as normal, released the ball earlier and even had a cracking effort which deserved a goal.
