What a glorious day to play football!!! Today we were playing LM United in the first round of the junior cup. LM looked like a very good side so I expected a tough match.
We knew the ref from seasons past and knew he was very good. The pitch was in really good condition and was ideal for our passing game. LM kicked off and passed the ball around confidently, they were a well organised side and looked dangerous upfront. We started well but were being pressured into mistakes by LM. The game was quite even for the first half an hour when Kev appeared from nowhere in the LM penalty area to poke home a great goal. That put us in front so we needed to keep it tight for the remaining 10 minutes. We were playing well now, working hard and passing the ball well. With 2 minutes left of the half Kev exploded through to crack in number 2 which flattered us a little bit. So we went in at half time 2 0 up.
We had to start the second half well, our biggest problem ihad been conceding within a couple of minutes of the start. It had been a good hardworking first half and we needed to stay tight and work together if we were to best this team. Our new young keeper was playing confidently and we had 2 youngsters on the bench as well who needed a run. LM came at us strongly for the first 15 minutes and managed to breach our defences on 60 minutes to make it 2 1. We really had a game on our hands now and would need to show some character. We stepped up our work rate and started passing the ball again! Both youngsters were on and playing very well. We were creating some really good chances again and were unlucky not to get another when Cocksy took a crack and did some damage to the fir tree by the squash courts! We managed to make it to full time and it was a great performance by all of the team, defensively we were really confident and our young keeper played really well.
Here's to a glory filled cup run.
Man of the match. Kev Johnson (he will always be Badcock to me)
