Wars bounce back with great result

Another Saturday and hopefully a good day of football!! Last week was a shocker so anything today would be an improvement, our visitors were Nutfield who looked like a very good side. We started the early kick off season this week and hopefully the weather will stay kind to us and keep the disgusting weather away so we don't get too many matches called off.

We had a good side out this week and needed a good result to get over the disaster of last week. The chairman had already given me and Tim his backing so we knew our time in this top job was limited. The day was bright and not too revolting so a good days football was on the cards. We kicked off and started quite brightly, having Rob in the centre of our defence had given us some confidence and we were playing confidently. Ollie was playing eight midfield and too everyone's astonishment he picked up the ball on the right, controlled it quite magnificently and then hit an absolute screamer into the top corner of the Nutfield goal. Unbelievable and the whole club will be hearing about it way past Christmas. That put us 1 0 up and I think we deserved the lead, Nutfield were quite strong and physical but we were matching them in the challenges. Nutfield were also playing well and had a few very good chances that they were unlucky not to convert. 45 minutes went by and we had played well to go in 1 0 up.

The team were playing very well and so we were looking for the second half to be more of the same. We are normally shocking straight after half time but this week we had the complete opposite!! We attacked straight from the kick off which saw Josh straight through and very unselfishly pass across to Mark to finish superbly in the bottom left hand corner of the Nutfield goal. What a brilliant start!!!! We continued to battle and Nutfield were still very much in it when Mark broke through brilliantly again only for the keeper to bring him down and give us a penalty. This was what we needed to get a bit of comfort and Luke stepped up to take the kick. He didn't let us down as he powered the ball into the back of the net to make it 3 0, absolutely magnificent. Nutfield to their credit continued to be strong and got a consolation in the 73rd minute when they were right through and gave Bobby no chance. The rest of the game was very well fought and Nutfield came close on more than one occasion, the run of the ball really didn't go for them at all.
So it finished 3 1 and it was a really well won 3 points, so much better than last week.

Well done to everyone in the team for a great display. Godstone next week which will be very tough, they are pulverising everyone again this year!!
