Wars pick up a point in cold war battle.

This Saturday we were away to South Godstone, it was a cold day but the pitch had thawed out so we were good to go. It wasn't the warmest of days and we were in for a tough game against these guys, at home we had been completely pulverised by this team but in our defence we didn't have a keeper or a striker. We had both today so I was hoping for a closer game.

We came out of the blocks quickly and confidently, taking the game to South Godstone and really putting them under pressure. It took only 5 minutes for us to break through, Luke played the ball through to Kev who crossed for Josh to guide past the keeper for a great finish to put us 1 up. We were playing well and had had some very good chances, stayed on top for the next 10 -15 minutes but South Godstone were gradually fighting their way back into the game. Their number 4 was a very strong player for them and was pulling the strings in midfield, it was no surprise when he turned up in the box to head home a free kick just outside our box. We were on the back foot now and 9 minutes later SG took advantage and popped in number 2 after confusion in our defence presented an easy knock in. We continued to battle for the remainder of the half but to no avail and we went in 2 1 down at the break.

We had worked hard and played well for 25 minutes or so of the first half so we had to do the same again for the next 45!!! We came out hard and fast and there seemed to be a much stronger resolve from the players, we were hitting challenges and creating some really good chances. We finally got a deserved equaliser in the 68th minute when Josh met a great cross with his head which nestled nicely in the back of the SG net. Our confidence was very high and the momentum was definitely with us to go on and win this game. In the last 20 minutes we had 2 or 3 very good chances but the luck just want with us and although we tried hard and played really well we couldn't quite get that winner. It finished in a draw, our first of the season, and it had been a very good game played in good spirit.

Home to Woodmansterne next week.

Man of the match: Has to go to Josh for 2 good goals and lots of hard work.
