Oxted "A" 1 Warlingham "B" 4

This week the mighty 4’s were away at Oxted “A” in the league. Not a great pitch and we were also faced with the prospect of playing against Ian Pierce of West Ham and Fulham fame, luckily he was playing for their 1st team.

We had a very good side out and spirits were high in the team. We had a couple of changes from last week but the core of the team was the same. The game got under way and the Wars immediately took control, playing easy short passes. It wasn’t long before we got our reward with Dave Baker leaping like a salmon and putting a great header away into the top right hand corner. Ash Bamford worked very hard up front and got his reward mid way through the half with our second goal, he also had a good effort disallowed for a dodgy offside decision. We went in at half time leading 2-0 but could have easily been 4 ahead.

Oxted started the second half very well and put us under some pressure. It took us 20 minutes to get our command back when we got our third, which was a great effort from Dersal Goktas, which made him the mighty 4’s top scorer. We made a few changes bringing on Ollie Rolfe, Pip Manning and Tony Cumber and continued to press for more goals. Oxted got a break away goal which saw Keith Williams beaten by a nasty bounce from the poor pitch. We hadn’t finished though and Pip Manning claimed his 3rd goal of the season with a strong header from a corner. We finished with a very good result winning 4-1.

Another great performance and result from the players, who all worked very hard and produced some beautiful football.

Home to Overton Athletic next week in the league. Come on you mighty 4’s.
