A perfect combination of youth and experience see's Wars cruise past Limpsfield

Redhill & District League – Division 3
Saturday 26th February 2011
Warlingham “B” 9 Limpsfield Blues Res 0

After another deluge on Saturday morning all 5 other games were off juts due to the determination of the “B”s management this game was switched to Beddington Park where the pitch was playable. Credit to Limpsfield Blues for agreeing to transfer the game to help us reduce our backlog of fixtures.

The blend of youth and experience is working really well and the “B” team are looking stronger and stronger every time I get to see them.

Today was no different and Limpsfield were simply blown away in every department.

As early as the 2nd min a Tyson long throw reached Macca who shot wide but it was clear the Limpsfield team had a very soft centre and this was exposed time and time again throughout the first half.

5 mins on the clock and a Harper ball finds Macca down the right and his cross is met by Stuart (B) who managed to volley just wide.

The writing was on the wall and after 9 mins another through ball reached Macca who looked composed as he despatched the first of many. 1-0 Wars.

Chances started to come and go and Limpsfield were still in the game. A Limpsfield cross on 19 mins was dropped by young Dung in goal and the ref decided there had been a foul which nobody else had seen!

A capacity crowd had travelled to find the only game taking place and were at their vociferous best on the line. After 23 mins a comic moment had everybody laughing as the Limpsfield centre half and left back ran into each other on the touchline leaving Macca to run away unchallenged.

27 mins in and Limpsfield could hold on no longer as exciting prospect Gary Tyson burst through from the left and coolly slotted home to make it 2-0. 3 mins later and Antino delivers a ball down the centre and the defenders watch as the ball falls to Macca who tacks it in his stride and strikes it home unchallenged. Just before half time a great passing move resulted in a cross from the right and Macca finished with his head into the top right-hand corner – not a common sight!

Macca struck again right on the whistle to make it 5-0 with 4 of the goals being very similar and created right through the Limpsfield soft centre. Half time 5-0.

Tyson, who was suffering with a back injury, was rested at half time and replaced by Norris. The game carried on much as it had in the first half.

With just 47 mins gone McIntyre swept forward and with 3 Wars players standing offside just carried on around the keeper and finished with aplomb – cool as you like!
His energy and commitment were apparent through out and he was given great assistance from Wilson who rolled back the years (and there are a lot of them!) to dominate midfield against his old club.

Next goal – Macca through again and his shot was deflected over. The resulting corner was met by Norris who thumped his header home. Wars 7-0.

Ben Stuart put the next corner straight into the net despite the efforts on the line of the Limpsfield defender. Wars 8-0.

Limpsfield had changed goal keeper at half time and the new guy managed to keep the score down as he made saves from McIntyre, Norris and Antino.

To finish the day off wars won a free kick about 35 yards from goal and Macca hit it true and on target. The keeper could only palm it out and there was Wilson, setting a fine example to the younger players as he followed up and made it 9-0. Game over.

Team: Dungey, Harper, Bristow, Herbert, Antino, Wilson, McIntyre, Tyson, Armstrong, MacDiarmid, Stuart (B) Subs: Kember, Norris, Stuart (D)

MOM: Where do I start?? Macca scored 4 goals. Herbert and Bristow were excellent in defence. Harper and Antino were excellent at full back, always looking to play.

Wilson was a rock in midfield. My vote goes to Mr perpetual motion himself, Gary McIntyre. Not only did he never stop running shutting down and winning the ball but he used it intelligently setting up play and also scoring a very well taken goal.
