Wars fly through to the next round of the cup.

Saturday 22nd Oct saw us at home to Overton. We had played Overton many times in the past with mixed results. They looked like a very different team than the on we had played in the past so it would be an interesting afternoon. It was a lovely sunny day though and we had a very strong team so were confident we could get something out of the game.

We had Dave Rolfe with us this week and because he has such a big gob it was right that he was captain for the day. We started the game and immediately looked in control, we were moving the ball about very nicely and playing with real confidence. We had a couple of good chances and I thought it was only a matter of time until we scored, however I was gobsmacked when Dave Rolfe moved majestically through the middle, played a one two down the left and then banged home a beauty (sort of off the keeper) to make it 1 0. We fully deserved to be in front and we didn't hang back in trying for more, Kev came close with a couple of really good efforts and we were solid in all other areas of the pitch. Overton managed to hold out for another 20 minutes when Daryl caught a beauty on his left peg and cracked home number 2. We were playing really confidently now and were knocking the ball about magnificently, some of the best football I had seen us play for a very long time. We were nearing half time now I was looking forward to going in 2 0 up when suddenly Ash picked up a loose ball and rifled it past the keeper to make it 3. Before we could draw breath from that cracker Kev found himself in the Overton box an switched the ball from his right foot to left and hit an absolute peach of a goal. So we wen in 4 0 up and absolutely delighted with the first half performance.

We started the second half looking to keep it nice and tight and make sure we didn't give Overton any sniff of getting back into the game. We continued to play some lovely football and came really close with good efforts from Ash and Jim Tallon. I wanted to give the subs some quality time so made some changes after 10 minutes. Kev, Dave and Daryl had played really well so I gave them a rest and let the subs have a go. although we continued to dominate Overton had gathered themselves and were making a game of it but I honestly still thought there were more goals in the game for us. We were still playing with great confidence and the whole team were stunned when even Jack Griffiths started acting like he had some skill. Jacks description 'the magnificent Griffiths really started to enjoy himself, nicking the ball off of their striker Griffiths sold the oncoming winger with a majestic dragback that fooled every player on the pitch(even him) before colly rolling to Rolfey on the right'. Legend!!!!! The game was virtually over now but we still had a final flourish to go. We attacked easily down the right and James Wheel was on hand to pop it in the back of the net to finish it on 5 0.

One of the best games of football i have seen the 4's play. Absolutely brilliant, every man. We work tirelessly on the training ground with some of these moves and it's great to see them come off on the pitch!!

Man of the match. All 14, impossible to pick between them.
