Wars triumph in battle for top spot.

RH123 were paying us a visit this week. They were top of the league and had got some great results, scoring lots of goals. We had a strong side again and we were feeling pretty confident. RH turned up and inside I was already preparing myself for a bit of a pasting, they looked very good!!!

It was a pretty good day for football with no sign of the predicted rain. We started well, working hard in the middle and playing the ball about nicely. It came as a bit of a shock in the 7th minute when RH launched a high ball into the middle of our penalty area and Mash came running out with a commanding shout. This rapidly withered into a worried expletive as he realised he had misjudged it and one of the 'tubby' RH boys headed it easily into our open goal. 1 0 down and RH were playing well. My inner concerns were starting to become reality and I could already here Steve's sermon, all I needed was to lose a match ball and my career as a top flight manager would be in ruins. That goal seemed to jerk us into life and we started battling for everything and were making RH make mistakes. 12 minutes later Mark Davidson picked the ball up just outside the RH penalty area and produced a delightful lob which left their keeper stranded to make it 1 1. We were pressing RH for every ball and they were looking a bit uncomfortable, I think they expected another easy ride!! 5 minutes went by when one of the RH players decided to pick the ball up in his penalty area and we were happy to take the penalty, Ash bravely stepped up after missing one last week and blasted it into the back of the net. Absolutely fantastic and I was pinching myself!! With 5 minutes left of the first half Mark chased a ball down the right which he had no right to get, the RH defender was completely flustered when under pressure. Mark robbed the ball from him and directed the ball brilliantly into the bottom right hand corner to make it 3 1. RH came back at us very strongly but we made it to half time with a 2 goal lead.

We had worked really hard for our lead in the first half and we had to do it all again if we were going to get a result. We started the second half with the same amount of commitment and hard work, every player was putting in 100 percent. RH were not happy though, this surely shouldn't be happening to them!! They started to get a bit feisty but we do feisty well so we gave as good as we got!! Dave Cocksedge was having a great game in the middle of the park, fighting for every ball and causing havoc. With 15 minutes to go we won a corner and sent up the heavy guns in a bid to make this game safe. Dave Rolfe met the corner brilliantly and Jim Tallon rose above everyone to power the ball into the back of the RH net( it bounced in off of his back ) to make it 4 1. Absolutely brilliant stuff, I could almost feel the pat on the back as Steve walked smiling across the club floor. RH were really unhappy now and the poor ref was getting quite a lot of stick, he didn't care though because he's deaf. With 3 minutes left RH won a free kick just outside our penalty area and the resultant kick was placed beautifully in the bottom corner. Still that couldn't take away the glory of this result, we had outfought and outplayed RH and the bar was beckoning!!

Every player did incredibly well but I have to give the man of the match to Dave Cocksedge, outstanding game in the middle.
