First Team Coach Rick Ward Gives Us His Update

Over the last few months I have been fortunate enough to be lending a hand to the excellent coaching of the youth team, provided by Chris Wells and Danny Glass.

The ability of the lads is outstanding and the future for Warrington Town is looking very bright.

Over the last few weeks some of the lads have been breaking into the first team squad, I have no doubt that many more will follow over the next few seasons.

So far this season 7 players from the youth set up have been involved in the first team squad, with 3 players making their league debuts.

At 16 years old Dylan Glass became one of the youngest ever goal scorers for the first team when he equalised against Mossley in February.

Along with Dylan, James Anderson and Rob Winrow have been present in the first team squad numerous times since the turn of the year.

All the players in the youth team have excellent ability and attitudes, I would not be surprised at all if a number will feature for the first team during pre season and throughout next year.

The youth team have also not lost a competitive match in the first two months of 2012, which is fantastic because they are still a very young team (mostly 16 and 17 year olds) playing in a league where most opposing teams are made up of players up to a year older than them.

Away from the youth team, Warrington Town’s schoolboys team have also been in excellent form and have progressed into the semi finals of the national cup.

It is a real pleasure to watch the lads playing and being successful. At under 15s they show real ability, confidence, composure and maturity above their ages.

I wish them all good luck in their semi final. I am sure I will be seeing a number of these players in the youth team in the next couple of years and hopefully challenging for a first team spot in the future.

The future is bright, the future is yellow!!
