WARRINGTON Town have strengthened their title chasing squad by signing former Manchester United left back Michael Lea.

Lea, aged 28, became a regular for the Manchester United Reserve team during the 2006-07 season, making 21 appearances.
He spent half a season on loan at Belgian side Royal Antwerp making 15 appearances for “The Great Old” before returning to Manchester United at the end of 2007.

More recently he has played at Marine and Colwyn Bay.

Lea has been signed following the departure of left back Alex McQuade who has secured a 12 month contract in Australia.

Club Chairman Toby Macormac said: “We are disappointed to lose the services of Alex but fully understand his desire to follow his dream and play in Australia and we wish him well.

“We are delighted to have been able to sign an experienced full-back, who had an excellent pedigree as a youngster at one of the biggest club’s in the world.”

As well as left back, Lea can also play at centre back.

Warrington are back in action when they welcome 3rd place Ossett Albion to the Winner Recruitment Stadium tomorrow, kick off 3pm.
