The Wolverines are a women's football club based in Warrington. The club has been around for 4 years, built on friendship and a will to make something special. And they duly are, because this season is the first time that the club have been involved in the FA cup. There is a buzz of excitement around the team and the players are very excited about the competition. The magic of the cup at any level in the game has a massive appeal and to now be a part of the competition is a fantastic showing of what the club has achieved already.
There are a lot of firsts going on at the club, with a steady progression to coincide with that.

A background of the club
The girls decided to call themselves the wolverines to demonstrate the female side in Warrington.
A number of the players played for several clubs initially, and they decided to join arms and setup a team that they could be proud of, and they are strongly working towards that.
In the clubs first couple of years they have won the Cheshire league division 1 & 2, so it has been a rapid rise for them but undoubtedly the quality is there for everyone to see.
The club are now starting our second season in the north west regional league after a third place finish last season.
Wendy Booth managed and played for the team for the early years whilst the club was growing before then opting to be only a player last year. The now manager, Paul Kelsall stepped in to take the role at the top. Paul has been involved with the club for two years, but this is his first season in charge.

Elements have been added to improve the professionalism of the club. By adding in team meetings which we will run once a month to set out expectations and to analyse performances. Strength and conditioning sessions and better training regimes. The most important thing for the management team is the performances of the squad and the way that they bring that team together which will help throughout all competitions this season. The team are certainly going out to win every game, with Paul setting them up in the best way possible to achieve their goals.

Aspirations
When you ask the players what they would like to achieve they'll tell you, they want to win every game. This season they are in four competitions, including the FA cup. And the club will want to do well in the league once again and improve on last season’s third place. Some of this will come from getting the infrastructure correct.

This year the club want to build on the great work previously done, with the club having a lot of structure already. Every session starts on time, finishes on time, and it is planned in detail. Everybody has the opportunity to get something out of the sessions, everyone gets training and match day kit and the chance to be a real part of the squad even if they are not necessarily in the match day squad.
The club only has one side, but Paul Kelsall is seeking to start a development squad in the future alongside the first team.

The Squad
The team and the squad are emerging, the club as a whole is developing greatly, and this is something that many people are buying into including the clubs supporters.
The squad itself now contains a number of experienced players, which will certainly help the new players coming into the side.

Women's football in Warrington
There are a number of girls’ football clubs in Warrington, and the Wolverines want to work alongside these clubs to help develop girls’ football throughout Warrington. Specifically Grappenhall Sports club, where the team now play their home games. The Sports club have a big junior setup, but they don't currently have a girl’s setup, so the Wolverines have gone in to work with them and grow a partnership to ensure that provision for girls’ football to eventually have an option to move into open aged football.
From this the club can develop new teams with all teams feeding into the first team squad at the Wolverines.

The Long term plan
Warrington is a big sporting town, with a lot of sporting action, could a town like that support a women's super league team or a premier league team? Absolutely, they could. And with the right partners and the right people involved at the club, there will be a good future for a women's setup in Warrington that could support that.

Everyone has done a fantastic job in everything that they have done whilst establishing the roots of the club and now moving forward hopefully this will all begin to come to fruition over the next few seasons.
