On Sunday morning, six of our U14 girls set off for Muskerry RFC for round two of the development blitzes.
Our super six teamed up with Fermoy for the day and our first opposition were the girls from Abbeyfeale RFC. In a good start to the day, some good passing and determined running saw us convert a number of opportunities to score, while good tackling kept the opposition out.
Next up were our hosts, Muskerry. This was a great tussle between two committed sides with the home team just managing to come up with the extra score to see them take the spoils.
A break for us in the third rotation of games gave us an opportunity to get our breaths back ahead of our match against a very strong Clonakilty outfit. Good organisation on the Clonakilty side gave them the time and space they needed to get the better of the strong and committed tackling from the Waterpark/Fermoy side and run in a number of tries. And although we did manage a good score ourselves, it wasn’t to be enough.
The final rotation saw us finish up against Kinsale. Both sides called in a few reinforcements from the home team who had finished their 4 games. The experience of the Kinsale side showed and some good running and support play paid off with a number of fine scores. Our girls dug deep though and themselves showed good running and support to work a fine try of our own.
All in all a great day’s play with performances they all can be proud of.
Huge thanks to our hosts Muskerry RFC for the welcome and hospitality and to Fermoy RFC for the team up on the day. Well done to all the players and coaches from all the clubs involved. And thank you to all the supporters, it really helps to make the occasion.
For any girls who’d like to join us and be a part of days like these, you’ll find us in Ballinakill every Monday and Wednesday evening at 7.15pm and you’d be most welcome!
Roll on the next one!
